MANAGER Steven Mackay is expecting his team to hold up their rampant form when they take on Strathspey Thistle tomorrow afternoon.

The Cattachs got their campaign off to a flyer last weekend as they thrashed Turriff United 5-0 at Dudgeon Park.

The win has put them joint top of the Highland League with Huntly who defeated Strathspey Thistle 5-0 in their opening game.

Brora Rangers head to Seafield Park to take on Strathspey Thistle, who finished bottom of the Highland League last season.

Mackay says Strathspey will be a team determined to show they can improve this season. But Brora will not hold up in the quest of looking for another resounding victory.

Speaking on Brora Rangers TV, Mackay said about Strathspey: “They got a pretty heavy defeat, they will be hurting and they will want a response.

“I imagine that they will be preparing for this game and wanting to make it difficult for us.

“We need to go in with the same attitude, irrespective of who we are playing in the league.

“The mentality and the attitude doesn’t change. We will approach the game in the exact same way and we will loom to perform in the same way in terms of pressing at the right time and getting the ball into areas where we hurt teams.”

Brora Rangers proved too good for Turriff in their 5-0 victory last weekend.

The deadlock was after nine minutes when Millar Gamble drove into the opposition half and plays it into Jordan Macrae who laid it off to Tony Dingwall to fire home.

The second goal came seven minutes into the second half when Macrae connected with a cross from Max Ewan to fire home.

Michael Finnis made his competitive league debut since returning to Brora by scoring a header to make 3-0 in the 71st minute.

Turriff’s defence imploded and Macrae grabbed his second of the game with 15 minutes remaining when he fired home a loose ball into the net from close range.

The rout was completed in injury time when Dingwall got his second of the game as he fired a low drive into the net.

Mackay was delighted with the performance of his team.

Speaking again on Brora Rangers TV, he said: “It is a great start for us in terms of the number of goals that we scored. The manner of the goals we scored as well as a clean sheet, it is a fantastic start for us. And something to build on.

“At home, we want to make it difficult for teams to play by pressing in the right areas and we did that in spells.

“We fell off the game after the first half and allowed Turriff to come back into it. We always felt if we got a second goal it could deflate them and kick on which is how it played out.”
