Royal Dornoch duo's top notch form is maintained at Brora
Just a week after winning an open mixed competition at Bonar Bridge/Ardgay Golf Club, a Royal Dornoch partnership triumphed again last Saturday at Brora on this occasion in the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals charity competition.
Elizabeth Coghill, present captain of the Northern Counties Women’s Golf Association, and Stuart Shaw with a combined handicap allowance of 14, amassed a winning 37 stableford points from their gross score of 85 and nett 71.
Beginning their round with nett birdie for 3 points they scored at every hole over the next eight for an outward tally of 18 points. With with the help of three more nett birdies on the tougher back nine they accumulated another 19 points for their winning 37 point card.
Over the much tougher back nine as the sun gave way to cloud and a rising wind, Shaw and Coghill were the only pair to better their outward half score as three couples fell back to with scores of 35 points and the order was decided by way of the inward half points.
Wick pair John and Christie Hunter to their outward count of 19 added another 16 for second place while the two other partnerships of locals Liam MacDonald-MacLeod and Angela Grant and Golf Week participants, Richard Cloverdale and Jane Nelson (Mosely) both ahead of the field with 20 points after the first nine holes struggled against the conditions when turning for home. MacDonald-MacLeod and Grant and the visitors both could only manage another 15 points each for third and fourth places respectively.
The SSPCA benefited by £150.
