Golspie Sutherland are set to take on Invergordon in the North Caledonian Cup final on Saturday

GOLSPIE Sutherland will be looking to put a silver lining on their season when they face Invergordon in the North Caledonian Cup final on Saturday.

Golspie will have home advantage as the final will be taking place at King George V Park with kick-off at 1pm.

Manager Andrew Banks says the club will be looking to at least find some success after what he described as a disappointing campaign in the league.

Despite being among the frontrunners in the title race early on, Golspie went on to finish in fourth place in the NCL and 19 points behind champions Invergordon.

Banks says while the league season did not go as he hoped it would, is confident they can end the campaign by hoisting the cup in front of a home crowd on Saturday.

He said: “Winning a cup will put a bit of positivity on what otherwise has been a poor season.

“It will be a good chance for us to show what we can do when we have everyone available.”

Speaking about having home advantage in the cup final, Banks said: “It doesn’t come better, but it also comes with extra pressure.

“If I had a choice, I would prefer not to have the final at Golspie. I have lost a cup final at Golspie before against St Duthus a few years ago.

“But we are going into the game confident and we are shaping up good.”

Banks says Golspie will have a full squad of 25 players who will be available for the North Caledonian Cup final.

He says this is a chance for his team to show their real ability after tackling injuries throughout the course of the season which undermined their campaign.

He said: “We went through parts of the season struggling to scrape a team, so to have 25 players available is a better headache to have.

“We have underperformed in the league this season and we wanted to be closer to making a title challenge.

“It kind of petered out before we got going. It has been a disappointing season, but hopefully we can make amends by finishing with a bit of silverware.”

Invergordon will be going for a league and cup double, having successfully retained the league title last month.

Golspie lost both games to Invergordon in the league this season, a 3-1 defeat at the Recreation Grounds in January followed by a 2-0 at King George V Park in August.

Banks says Golspie will go into the game as underdogs, but is confident they are capable of victory on Saturday.

He said: “Invergordon will go into the game as favourites, this season they have beat us twice in the league.

“But if we can turn up on the day and have everyone available, we should give them a game hopefully.”
