Golspie Sutherland keep in touch in North Caledonian League title race
GOLSPIE Sutherland remain in touch in the North Caledonian League title race after defeating Clachnacuddin A 3-1 at Evanton.
The win means Golspie are in third place in the table and only six points behind league leaders Halkirk United with two games in hand.
Craig Gunn was the hat-trick hero for Golspie as he scored all of their goals before the hour mark. He gave them a 1-0 lead midway through the first half and doubled their advantage two minutes before half time.
He then grabbed his third on the hour mark to make it 3-0. Cruz Hastings did pull one back for Clachnacuddin A with 19 minutes remaining, but Golspie managed to hold on to their two-goal advantage to pick up all three points.
Golspie Sutherland will not be able to reduce the gap at the top further this weekend as they are not in action.
Bonar Bridge threw away the lead to go down to a 3-1 defeat to Inverness Athletic in North Kessock.
They did take the lead after five minutes when Connel Gresham found the net. But Jake Lockett equalised for Athletic as both teams went into the break at 1-1.
Brodie Watson gave Inverness Athletic the lead in the 77th minute before a Jack Corbett own goal five minutes from time killed off the game. Bonar Bridge are in ninth place in the 12-team league on 13 points.
They will look to beat their points total from last season when they are scheduled to welcome Orkney to Migdale tomorrow afternoon with kick-off at 1pm.
Bottom of the table Bunillidh Thistle were not in action last weekend when their match with Orkney was postponed due to ferry sailings being cancelled.
They will look for their second win of the season when they travel to face Thurso at The Dammies tomorrow.
Other league matches tomorrow include Halkirk United taking on Fort William and Invergordon face Clachnacuddin A.
Golspie will be hosting the Football Times Cup final as Alness United face Inverness Athletic with kick-off at 2.30pm.
Elsewhere in the NCL last week, Halkirk remain six points clear at the top with a 2-1 win at Fort William. Invergordon proved too good in a 4-0 win over St Duthus and Alness United beat Thurso 3-2.
