Chairman William Powrie hoping for reform of Scottish League to allow promotion for Brora Rangers
Brora Rangers’ chairman William Powrie hopes the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) will go ahead with league reconstruction to allow the Highland League champions promotion to League Two.
The Lowland League declared their season finished this week crowning Kelty Hearts champions, who should now be facing the Cattachs in the League Two play-offs.
The League Two season was brought to an end after all four divisions gave support to SPFL proposals. It has resulted in no relegation and scrapping the play-offs, denying Brora and Kelty the chance of promotion.
Now Powrie says league reconstruction has to take place to allow promotion to both Highland and Lowland League champions.
“It is good the Lowland League made the decision to follow the Highland League by finishing the season and declare Kelty Hearts champions,” he said.
“That brings certainty of the champions in Tier Five across the board.

“Both clubs are ambitious to get into the SPFL, but the decision is outwith our hands.
"As I’ve said before we’re outside the tent looking in and both the clubs are doing our own lobbying.
“Our escalation to the SPFL is tied with so many other things.
“We have no say in how the season will end or if they will do any form of reconstruction.
“All we can hope is a proposal is brought forward to the SPFL that may include reconstruction of a 14-10-10-10 league basis.
“That would be an ideal scenario for both Kelty and ourselves.
“But there could be a 14-14-14 league set up that would see us frozen out. We hope for the former and prepare all we can, not knowing which way it is going to go.”
Powrie says this season has to be brought to an end at all levels and concentrate on clubs being prepared to be in a position to start next season.
“I can’t see any way there could be any more football for this season,” he said.
“Any thoughts of extending this season into June, July or August is fanciful. It could end up wrecking two seasons not just one and I think we should draw a line under it. We hope the SPFL can come to a resolution of their current discussion in a fair and equitable way by raising us to joining their ranks.”
