Bunillidh Sports Club have capped off a remarkable season in the Sutherland Pool League, clinching a league and fours double.

The league, which this year saw five teams compete, culminated in a strong showing from the Helmsdale club, who triumphed in both the league and the prestigious County Fours Final hosted at Brora Rangers Social Club.

Graham Grant and Angus Flett stood out in the points ranks, scoring highest for the Helmsdale outfit with 13 apiece - runners-up only to Brora’s Colin Bird with 14.

The league was won over 12 games with Bunillidh losing only once to claim 22 points in total.

SA Brora finished second with 20 points and Belgrave A in third with 16.

The victorious Bunillidh fours team, which included Billy Cowie, Dean Cowie, Andrew Cairns, Robert Yuill, and Alisdair Sutherland, defeated Belgrave A in a thrilling final to claim the coveted title earlier this year.

In addition to their team successes, Bunillidh hosted their own County Singles competition on May 3rd, with Derek Maclennan, SA Brora emerging as the winner.

Maclennan triumphed over Hector Mackay of Bunillidh in the final, securing the County Singles Shield.

Mackay offered his congratulations to Maclennan, thanking all the players involved in the competition for their spirited play.

He also extended appreciation to the Bunillidh Sports Club for providing hot food and soup throughout the event, as well as special mention to Bob Yuill, who served as referee.

The Sutherland Pool League began in 2016, initially featuring teams from Helmsdale, Brora, Golspie, and Dornoch.

While Dornoch no longer has a team, the competition remains a highlight of the local winter sports calendar.
