Brora Rangers footballer says scoring hat-trick in Highland League Cup final against Fraserburgh was dream come true as he prepares to face East Kilbride in play-offs
HAT-TRICK hero Max Ewan says Brora Rangers taking a clean sweep of trophies this season was a dream come true.
The Cattachs won the Highland League Cup beating Fraserburgh 3-1 in the final at Grant Street Park in Inverness on Saturday.
Ewan scored all three goals in the final in what was a dominant performance by the Sutherland outfit.
They added the trophy to the Highland League they won last week and North of Scotland Cup they won in October.
Ewan says at the start of the campaign, Brora Rangers looked to dominate the season by winning all three trophies and says it is an incredible achievement that they met their objective.
He said: “That was the target at the start of the season and we are always going to try and set ourselves that target.
“But to actually do that is a dream come true.”
Brora Rangers became the first team to win three trophies in a season since Buckie Thistle did it 71 years ago.
Ewan said that they did use that statistic before the cup final as motivation to go and lift the trophy.
He said: “The manager said at the start we got so high winning the league last week, we needed to try and get ourselves up again to make history.
“It was a massive incentive and the boys were all brilliant to deliver that so I am buzzing.”
Ewan scored all three goals, two goals in the space of five minutes in the first half before slotting home a penalty in the second half.
The second goal was arguably a contender for goal of the season when he lobbed the ball over Fraserburgh goalkeeper Joe Barbour from the edge of the box.
He said: “The second goal I looked up and if I thought if I waited a couple of seconds, the goalkeeper would go to ground and thankfully it came under the bar.”
Talking about his hat-trick, he said: “It doesn’t get any better than that. Fraserburgh came out fast and we always thought that they were going to do that.
“But after that we grew into the game and felt we would be dangerous. Three goals was the icing on the cake so I can’t complain.”
Brora Rangers are now focussing on the SPFL League Two play-offs and face Lowland League champions East Kilbride in the two-legged semi final.
The winner will face whoever finishes bottom of League Two between Bonnyrigg Rose and Forfar Athletic in the final.

Ewan says Brora Rangers are capable of being promoted to League Two and would see playing at a higher level next season as a new opportunity in his career he would love to take on.
He said: “We need to take each game as it comes. East Kilbride will be tough and the key in the first leg will be to stay in the game and I think we can give anyone a game at Dudgeon Park.
“It would be amazing to be promoted, I came to this club to win trophies and challenge myself at the highest level I can. It would mean a lot to get into League Two.”
