Brora Rangers remain three points clear at the top of Highland League after win against Nairn County and manager Steven Mackay is looking for his team to pick up results that will guide them to title.
MANAGER Steven Mackay says Brora Rangers will not be impacted by what other teams are doing in the Highland League as they look to keep their place at the top of the table.
The Cattachs remain three points clear at the summit after their narrow 1-0 win over Nairn County at Dudgeon Park on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, nearest challengers Brechin City cruised to a 3-0 win over Deveronvale in Banff while third place Banks O’Dee dropped points in a 1-1 draw against Huntly.
Brechin City appointed Ray Mackinnon as their caretaker manager this week following their dismissal of previous boss Patrick Cregg after a run of just one win in five games before their win at Banff on Wednesday night.
Brora Rangers’ have capitalised on Brechin’s poor form as they have had a run of four consecutive wins in the Highland League that has turned their season around.
The Cattachs title challenge looked to be fading in December and January following home defeats to Clachnacuddin and Fraserburgh.

But Mackay praised his team for not giving up when the odds were against them and hopes they can continue their title charge.
Looking back at the Clachnacuddin defeat in December, Mackay said: “That was a real tough defeat for us to take.
“But if this game has taught me anything it is to expect the unexpected.
“You never know what can happen, Buckie Thistle won the title on goal difference last season, you never give up, there is always a lot of football to be played. There is a lot that can happen in football and we need to take care of each game.”
Brora Rangers are set to travel to last season’s champions Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon looking to maintain their three-point lead at the top.
Buckie have had a disappointing campaign as they are in eighth place and well out of the title race.
But Mackay says he always expects a tough challenge taking on Buckie Thistle.
He said: “Buckie are a dangerous side, they always are. Games between us are always fiercely contested, they always are and Saturday won’t be any different. We will need perform better than we did against Nairn to get a positive result, but I am sure we will. The game at the weekend took a lot out of us so we will rest up in the next few days.
Connor Bunce scored the only goal of the game in Brora Rangers’ 1-0 win over Nairn County at Dudgeon Park on Wednesday night.
Mackay admitted it wasn’t a classic, but all that mattered is they maintained their three point advantage at the top of the table.
He said: “We just have to win, I keep to stressing the boys we need to ensure we get our result and we are keen to take care of our own business.
“You need to dig deep on nights like that and get the win by any means possible.”
