Brora Rangers have to beat teams like Formartine to win Highland League
MANAGER Steven Mackay says if Brora Rangers want to win the Highland League, beating teams like Formartine United are the type of games that they need to win.
Brora Rangers are at the top of the Highland League with three wins out of three, including their 4-1 victory over Forres Mechanics on Wednesday night. It has been an impressive start from Brora, with victories against Turriff and Strathspey bringing their total amount of goals scored to 16 after just three matches.
Mackay knows Formartine will be their toughest test of the campaign so far, but says they have to win against this kind of opposition if they want to claim the Highland League title at the end of the season.
He said: “It will be a tough game for sure, we know what Formartine can bring and the threats that they pose. It is another good test to see where we are.
Formartine will be a team that will be up there challenging, it is a game we look to do well and hopefully win.

“If we want to do well and win, if we want to be up there challenging that is the type of games we need to win.”
Brora Rangers continued their good start to the campaign with a 4-1 against Forres Mechanics at the Mosset Park.
Max Ewan gave Brora Rangers the lead but Mark McLauchlan equalised for Forres as the score was 1-1 at half time.
Brora stamped their authority in the second half with goals from Mark Nicolson and a James Wallace double securing victory. Mackay said after a slow start, Brora eventually showed their class to secure the win.
He said: “Happy with the three points, we were made to work hard in the first half, Forres came out of the traps a bit quicker than us which was disappointing. They did look a bit hungrier than us and pressed us into some uncharacteristic errors.
“Over the course we went in at one each which was a fair reflection. We asked the boys to be more direct in their play. We got the second goal and they tired which we thought might happen at some point. Then we were able to play our normal game and get the ball down and score some nice goals and could have added to it as well.”
