Wrong date for special mass at Tain church
PLEASE note that a special mass which we said in this week’s NT is taking place in the St Duthac Collegiate Church in Tain tomorrow is incorrect – it is actually on Saturday, 22 August.
The mass will be held in the St Duthac Collegiate Church in Tain at noon followed by a procession to the Old Church of St Duthac, to celebrate an historic occasion.
The mass will be conducted by The Most Reverend Archbishop Mario Conti.
The Highland Deanery Pilgrimage coincides with celebrations at the St Duthac Pilgrim Centre and Museum in the town to commemorate the granting of a Papal Bull (Papal Seal) in 1492 to the Royal Burgh, confirming its status of Christian Centre and Collegiate Church.
Tain became a centre of royal pilgrimages and Christian worship through the centuries following this historic event.
Mario Conti is Archbishop Emeritus of the Metropolitan see of Glasgow and a former Bishop of Aberdeen diocese, whose area covers Tain, Ross-shire, Sutherland and Caithness.
Archbishop Conti said: “I am greatly honoured to be invited by the Highland Deanery community to celebrate mass in Tain and to commemorate the granting of the Papal Bull.
“It is always a pleasure to return to the beautiful northern Highlands where I enjoyed many happy memories during my 15 years as a parish priest in Caithness and my later visits as Bishop of Aberdeen.”
Following the mass and procession, pilgrims are invited to St Vincent’s RC Church in Tain for refreshments.
