Work begins on Lawson's 'greenspace'
Dr Michael Simpson cuts the first sod at the Lawson Hospital site
Work has started on transforming the grounds of the Lawson Memorial Hospital in Golspie into an inviting "green space" for the enjoyment of patients, staff and visitors.
Contractors G F Job Ltd, of Nairn, started work on site on Monday and expect to complete the £50,000 project by the end of July.
There are just over seven acres of green space around the hospital, which currently consists predominantly of grass, shrubs and small groups of semi-mature broadleaves, but it is neither inviting nor accessible.
The work will include the creation of a network of accessible footpaths and a much needed alternative pedestrian access into the hospital, which removes the need for people to walk along the entrance road.
The project also includes pruning and removing dead shrubs and trees and there are plans for a flower and herb garden with raised beds.
