Woman was dragged along road as husband drives off in van
The man, from Inverness, who admitted endangering the life of his wife, will be sentenced by a sheriff next month.
Jacqueline Foy was dragged along the road and sustained cuts, grazes and bruising when she fell onto the roadway.
Depute fiscal Roderick Urquhart told Sheriff Margaret Neilson that at about noon on June 15 last year, Mrs Foy was at her mother’s address in Ashton Road in Inverness when her husband, Joseph, arrived in a van and parked outside.
“There was an argument, possibly as a result of his parents-in-law having booked a holiday for the (Foy’s) children without consulting him.”
Mr Urquhart said Foy was not allowed into the house and returned to his van.
He was followed by his wife who was barefoot.
“Foy got into the driver’s seat and his wife stood at the passenger’s side,” said the fiscal.
Neighbours then heard raised voices and the revving of the van’s engine and witnesses saw Jacqueline leaning into the van.
“They heard the screaming of tyres as the van quickly reversed a short distance, stopped and then moved forward with Mrs Foy half inside the van, unable to extricate herself. She was screaming and fell on the roadway.”
Mr Urquhart said Mrs Foy sustained cuts, grazes and bruising and Joseph Foy later arrived at Burnett Road Police Station alleging he had been assaulted by his wife.
Mr Urquhart said he was seen to have a red mark on the side of his face.
But he was arrested and charged.
Foy (41) of Murray Terrace, Smithton, admitted culpable and reckless conduct and
Sheriff Neilson deferred sentence until July 8 for criminal justice social work reports.
