Coastguards carried a woman by stretcher from a Sutherland beach today after she fell on rocks and ambulance staff had to call for help.

Ambulance personnel were first sent but then asked the coastguard at 12.50pm for assistance to extract the walker at Clashnessie Bay, ten miles north of Lochinver.

Both Lochinver and Kinlochbervie coastguard rescue teams arrived on scene at 1.28pm and stretchered the woman to a waiting ambulance over the next half-hour.

It is believed she suffered a broken ankle. Her condition is unknown.
