WATCH: John O'Groats Trail featured in stunning video first
A stunning new video will surely persuade even the most reluctant of walkers to put on their hiking boots.
The video is the first to be produced by the Friends of the John O’Groats Trail and highlights the magnificent, 147-mile long coastal walking route which runs from Inverness to John O’Groats.
Five ‘stages’ of the trail run through Sutherland - Tain to Dornoch; Dornoch to Golspie; Golspie to Brora; Brora to Helmsdale and Helmsdale to Berriedale.
Group chairman Jay Wilson said there continues to be big changes on the route with a new gateway arch installed at John O’Groats.
The installation has been sponsored by the John O’Groats Brewery, the John O’ Groats Development Trust and trail volunteer Charlie Bain.
Mr Wilson said: “As we come out of Covid restrictions, we hope to have an opening ceremony in the near future.”
In conjunction with the video release, an appeal has gone out for volunteers and donations to help maintain the trail.
“As we cautiously reopen the trail will need improvement and maintenance to allow walkers to enjoy it safely,” the voice-over states.
“Volunteers are needed to do everything from simple construction of stiles to bracken bashing to administration from home.
“You don’t need to commit regularly, even a few hours or one volunteer day will make a difference, or help us by keeping an eye on the trail as it winds its way through your community.”
