A walker in distress was rescued by lifeboat and coastguard personnel today at the mouth of a west Highland sea loch.

Lochinver RNLI’s lifeboat crew and a HM Coastguard helicopter responded to an emergency call just before lunchtime.

The injured walker was located soon after near the entrance to Loch Ewe, on its eastern shore, north-west of Poolewe.

It is understood the individual was flown to Raigmore Hospital. The injuries sustained were not thought to be life-threatening but their condition is not known.

A spokesman for the RNLI praised the teamwork involved in the successful rescue mission, adding: “Our Lochaber crew got the call at around 11.47 am after a walker had fallen at the entrance to Loch ewe, on the eastern shore.

“The person was safely removed through the combined efforts of our crew and the Coastguard helicopter.”
