NC500 hotspot Ullapool sees campers pitch up on village park
Ullapool has seen campers pitch-up in a village park, sparking calls from some for investment in the rangers’ service.
Tents have been spotted in Ullapool’s Morefield Play Park and football pitch, to the disdain of many locals who believe they should pay the fee of staying in the village campsite.
The sighting comes just days after the Scottish Government approved a ‘tourist tax’ that will allow local authorities to add a charge to overnight accommodation such as hotels, B&Bs and holiday lets. The earliest this visitor levy could come into force is in 2026.

Locals also say that this incident illustrates the need for the rangers service to be invested in by the Highland Council, particularly as the village is a tourist hotspot due to the NC500.
Other locals however, have pointed out that the campers do not appear to be causing any harm.
