Ullapool saw a 18% increase in value per tonne of fish in July 2024 compared to July 2023 — but tonnage also dropped by 15%.

Highland economist Tony Mackay has analysed recent fish landing figures, which include all UK and foreign vessels, from the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).

Overall, there was a small -4% fall in the value of fish landings in Scotland to just under £36 million, compared with July 2023 — however there was a +12% increase in tonnage to 20,879.

Only three of the nine Scottish ports/districts recorded an increase in value, one of these being Ullapool.

Ullapool saw an increase of 18% in value per tonne of fish in July 2024 (£1620 per tn) compared to July 2023 (£1368 per tn). However, the Wester Ross fishing village also saw a 15% drop in tonnage for July 2024 (522 tn) compared to July 2023 (614 tn).
