An Ullapool community art project helped to reignite local residents’ love for painting.

Over a series of spring workshops, the Our Wild Garden project was brought to life by 90 Wester Ross residents, led by local artist Eleanor White of Bridge House Art.

Made up of over 200 hand-painted squares, the artwork features fifty different wildflowers which grow locally.

Explaining more, arts and learning development officer Joanna Wright said: “Our tutor Eleanor created a huge collage of photographs of flowers, divided this into a grid, and participants chose which square they wanted to recreate in paint on small 10 x 10cm boards. These boards were then compiled to make the finished artwork.”

The artwork is now on display in the MacPhail Centre corridors for the summer, before permanently moving to Ullapool Medical Practice where it will continue to be on display.

One of the participants said: “I went from 'no way can I do that' to 'wow I'm proud of that!’”

Another commented: “ I loved it!! I’ve not painted since school — a long time ago — so it was great to have a go.”

“ It was a great activity to do with my mother-in-law who has dementia and enjoyed being part of it.” explained another participant taking part in the project.
