Trawler chips in to help TYKES
OWNERS of Golspie’s fish and chip takeaway, The Trawler, are holding a special charity event on Monday to raise funds for The Young Karers East Sutherland (Tykes).
Dawn and Christie Gray, who have owned the award-winning restaurant and take away for five years, were keen to support Tykes when they learned about the issues facing young carers and the difference that Tykes makes to improve the lives of young people who have a caring responsibility.
The couple came up with the idea of holding a night dedicated to Tykes, with the proceeds from 100 take away fish suppers to go the charity.
Trawler suppliers Willie Hendry potato merchants, and fish merchants Bannermans of Tain and Colbecks, have also been inspired by the idea and have donated fish and tatties to the event, and pledged their own donation to Tykes. The Tykes project provides support for children and teens across Sutherland whose families are affected by illness, disability or addiction.
More than 70 children are registered with the project, and it is hoped the event will raise enough funds to provide a special fun day out for them.
Tykes manager Myra Clark said she was delighted and grateful for the Trawler’s “fantastic initiative” and hoped many people would support it by buying a fish supper between 4pm and 9pm on Monday.
