Trail founder's inspiring talk
It is a walking trail that winds its way along the stunning eastern coast from Inverness to John O’Groats.
And East Sutherland Rotary Club was told how it came about in an address by the trail’s founder, American born Jay Wilson.
Members listened in fascination as he told how he fell in love with the Far North when he walked the JoGLE (John O’Groats to Land’s End.
He eventually moved to Berriedale on a mission to open up the old drover and coast roads that wind along the dramatic Moray Firth coast.
Mr Wilson and volunteers cleared bushes, took away rubble, built bridges and styles and erected marker posts so the route could be followed safely and with confidence.
The trail is now being professionally marketed as a peaceful and scenic alternative to tourism route NC500. A trail ranger was recently appointed.
Rotary Club spokesman Alistair Risk said: “Members thoroughly enjoyed and were inspired by Mr Wilson’s talk. He had a fascinating story to tell.
“So much so that number of us are now thinking about possibly walking the trail as a fundraising challenge.”
