Thurso to host event for people living with Parkinson’s

People living with Parkinson’s and their families and carers are being invited to an event in Thurso to learn more about support that is available.

Staff from the charity Parkinson’s UK will be at Thurso Leisure Centre next week to talk about what services are available.

There will also be a chance to try out Parkinson’s specific physical activity sessions that are run through High Life Highland.

Parkinson’s UK area development manager for the region, Anita Jefferies, and Stephanie Robertson, one of the charity’s team of local advisers, will be available to talk about the services and support the charity provides.

Amy Sutherland from the Parkinson’s physical activity sessions, which High Life Highland offers weekly at the leisure centre, will also be on hand. She will explain what happens at the class and offer people the chance to try some activities.

The team are keen to meet with as many people as possible, who are either living with Parkinson’s or supporting someone who does.

Anita said: “We’re eager to engage the community in Thurso and the surrounding area so people know more about the support we offer and we, in turn, understand their unique needs.

“The weekly classes High Life Highland offers are a great way to keep active and meet other people living with the condition.

“We’ll also be sharing information about ways to keep active at home, such as online dance sessions which Scottish Ballet offers for people with Parkinson’s.”

Refreshments and cake will be served and people can drop in at any time between 3pm and 5pm on Thursday, September 12.
