Tain Tesco car boot sale 9am-1pm. £5 per space; no need to book. Sellers can set up from 7.30am. Last sale of the seaon.

Symposium

The North West Highlands Geopark has linked with the Highland Geological Society to hold ‘Celebrating an impact’ at the Macphail Centre, Ullapool,from 9.45am-5.30pm. Polycrubs

Go along to Farr High School, Bettyhill, from 10am (Saturday) and see the school's two new polycrubs. Volunteers from the local community are needed to get involved in growing plants in the polycrubs. Tea and cake provided

Family Fun Day

Family fun day at Strathnaver Museum 11am-4pm. A drop-in event ‘Digging up the Past’. Drop-in event with interactive family friendly activities using objects in the collection as inspiration.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1

The Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust (KoSDT) is holding a ‘Hearst & Gaither Big Picnic’ at Drovers Square, Ardgay, on Sunday 12.30pm-2.30pm.

The event will include a plant and seed swap and polytunnel workshops as well as the official opening of an ‘education space’

All are welcome and anyone intending to take part is asked to bring their own blanket and mug/plate for the picnic. Capaldi’s Ice-Cream van will also be serving up treats.

The event is part of the Highlands and Islands Climate Festival and has been funded by Highlands and Islands Climate Hub.

Volunteer Day

Farr Glebe Wildflower Volunteer Day 10.30am-1pm. Help rake off the cut grass from the Farr Glebe bumblebee reserve at Clachan, Bettyhill. Some tools provided, bring you own if you can. Over 18s only. No need to book.

Memorial Run

Caithness and Sutherland Vintage and Class Vehicle Club run in memory of club stalwart David Green.

The run leaves Thurso harbour at 10am, calling at Melvich for coffee and heading on to Tongue where a photo shoot will take place, and onwards to Durness for lunch at the Smoo Cave Hotel.

Dance

Assynt Dance Group starts their country dance sessions for the season in Lochinver Village Hall 2pm-4pm. First session is free for newcomers.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4

Sale of Work

Farr Campus sale of work in the high school hall from 2pm. Usual stalls. Admission £3 includes tea/coffee and biscuits.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5

Author’s Talk

Author’s talk by Liz Treacher at Piper’s Coffee House, Tain, on Thursday from 6pm.

MAKAR’S TOUR

Scotland’s makar, poet Kathleen Jamie will be at Bettyhill library from 7.30pm on Thursday (National Poetry Day) as the first stop in her Makar’s Tour The event will feature support from writer Mandy Haggith of Achmelvich.
