The Broons move back home
Lairg Gala Week committee have rebuilt their famous Broons’ house on its tiny island on little Loch Shin.
Last January, Lairg residents, and the wider public, were dismayed when they saw the well loved Hoose had been destroyed in the storms.
However, Lairg Gala Week committee who had built the original Hoose, decided to take the task in hand again and have built a splendid new one.
The new construction has a real slate roof which was built by Robbie Macdonald, son of Alan MacDonald, one of the original Gala Week committee.
Robbie is presently undergoing a joinery apprenticeship with Richard Sutherland in Brora and attends day release at Thurso College.
The new Hoose has now been erected on the island, where locals and tourists alike will be glad to see one of Lairg’s iconic landmarks back where it belongs.
Shortly the Broons’ Hoose story will be published and printed on a local notice board for all to read – a new chapter in the history of the Hoose.
Those who helped the Gala Week committee out were Alan and Denise Lockhart, David Macdonald, Steven Mathieson, Kenny Campbell and Jordan Gibbons with thanks also to Alan Macdonald, Robbie Macdonald, Lindsey Macdonald and Carlos Galvao without whose boat it would not have been possible.
