A DRUNKEN young Tain man hit a door steward on the head as he was frogmarched out of a pub after refusing to leave.

Charles Hudson (19), who works at Tain Pottery, didn’t behave any better when police arrived. Officers had to wrestle him to the ground in order to restrain him.

The incident happened at the Railway Hotel, Tain, on Saturday, 25th January.

“Mr Hudson was drinking until 1am on the Saturday and was under the influence of alcohol,” procurator fiscal Karen Smith told Tain Justice of the Peace Court today.

“He went up to the bar to be served but was told it had closed and was asked to leave. He didn’t accept this – he wasn’t aggressive but just told bar staff he would leave when he was ready.

“Staff then asked for help from two stewards who were manning the door.”

The fiscal continued: “The stewards gave Mr Hudson plenty opportunity to go but eventually decided to take him out.

“At first he walked along with them but then started to make things difficult. He punched one of the stewards on the head and as a result police were called.

“Mr Hudson struggled with the officers and eventually had to be put on the ground and restrained.”

Hudson, who did not have legal representation, admitted the assault and told Justice of the Peace Bert Wallace: “I was really drunk and did most of the things the fiscal said. Her report is pretty much accurate. I was just intoxicated.”

JP Mr Wallace fined Hudson £360 and imposed a fine enforcement order in the event of non-payment.
