Sutherland’s new SNP MP has sworn allegiance to the Queen at an oath taking ceremony in the House of Commons.

Dr Paul Monaghan, who also represents Caithness and Easter Ross, took part in the traditional ceremony today and posted a video (below) of his experience on YouTube.

He also tweeted: "Delighted to have been sworn in as Member of Parliament for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross. Now the work can start. #StrongerScotland."

Some of his SNP colleagues made their oaths in Gaelic or Scots as well as English.

Dr Monaghan overcame the constituency’s former Liberal Democrat MP John Thurso in a massive swing to the SNP at the recent General Election.
