Sutherland eyes will be glued to Sky Sports tonight to watch out for Dornoch exile Jimmy Gunn, who features in the US Open at the Chambers Bay Golf Course in Washington State.

After the qualifying rounds he was one of four reserves called up into the championship at short notice.

Gunn, 34, was the first alternate from the Memphis, Tennessee, qualifying tournament and he will be making his début in the US Open.

He is due out as one of the last trio of players in round one.

As a part-time joiner before emigrating to the US, he caddied at Royal Dornoch and was the leading amateur in the Northern Open at Skibo Castle in 2007 before turning professional and moving to America where he set up his base at Scottsdale, Arizona, and played several mini-tours.

Joining Jimmy in Washington will be his mum and dad from Dornoch, Wendy and James, and daughter Kirtsy (18).
