The pair were among six army pipers hand-picked to accompany the royal couple on the trip.

It was a departure from normal procedure - usually the host nation provides entertainment which is representative of its culture during a state visit. On this occasion, however, the Royals took the music with them!

The army pipers spent two days rehearsing before playing at a state banquet held by Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Presidential Palace.

After playing for the guests, Colin and Mark had the opportunity to chat with Their Majesties and the Italian President, who said they were very impressed with the sound of the pipes.

The King and Queen spent four days in Italy, visiting Rome and Ravenna, and celebrating the strong links between Italy and the UK. The trip coincided with their 20th wedding anniversary on April 9.
