Sutherland Groups Receive Funding
Loth and Helmsdale Flower Show have been awarded a Lottery grant.
Three Sutherland groups are among 300 in Scotland to share Awards for All Lottery funding worth over £2m.
Awards for All is the National Lottery’s small grants scheme which gives out grants of between £500 to £10,000 that make a big difference to Scotland’s communities.
The Loth and Helmsdale Flower Show committee have been given £8037 to purchase equipment so that it can run its community events more efficiently. The group wants to both improve its shows, raise awareness of its activities, and increase membership. The grant will fund 80 tables, publicity banners and marketing leaflets.
Skerray Village Hall committee receive £10,000 to complete a total upgrade of the local hall’s roof which will include insulation and cladding. The current roof is resulting in heat loss and wastage of energy for the hall committee. This grant will fund roof insulation and roof cladding.
Strathnaver Museum in Bettyhill has been awarded £5260 to work with twelve local schools and the countryside ranger service to engage young people with the local environment and the biodiversity of Sutherland, focusing on freshwater habitats. The group will organise a nature photography competition, arts workshops and an exhibition of the work produced.
The grant will fund printing costs, art materials, artists fees, transport costs, environmental prizes, poster production, school displays, photobooks, an exhibition and an online display.
And in Ross-shire, the Tain Choral group have been given £1530 to purchase a trailer to enable the group to transport portable staging to performances.
