A Sutherland-based business has been named as a finalist ahead of the Scotland final of the UK StartUp Awards.

Candles from the Croft, run by Sandie Gordon in Altass, has been nominated for the Global StartUp of the Year Award and the Consumer Products StartUp of The Year Award in Scotland.

While focusing on the family history of the land five generations have worked, Candles from the Croft utilises natural materials and offers refill options across different ranges.

Striving to be different in a crowded market Candles from the Croft uses storytelling and agriculture to promote its growing brand and business while taking inspiration from the land they call home in the Highlands, in particular the botanicals that form.

Sandie said: “Being shortlisted for these awards is an incredible recognition for a small start up in a rural location.

“It shows innovation, growth and impact on an international scale as well as a local scale. It highlights the hard work and dedication to building a brand that resonate strong values and quality. It reinforces credibility, opens doors to new opportunities, and showcases the brand amongst some of the best emerging businesses.

“I’m just excited to continue to strive to push my wee business forward and keep promoting the Highlands and home!
