Big Bang launch for construction firm Pat Munro
Construction firm Pat Munro opened its newest quarry Strathrory Rock, just outside Alness, with a controlled blast last Thursday.
The new quarry, which has a massive reserve of 5.5million tonnes, is expected to be in production for the next 50 years and beyond.
It represents Pat Munro’s first entry into the rock market, allowing the family run firm to provide armour stone that can be used for seawall construction, harbour expansions and land reclamation as well as cheaper crushed aggregates that will satisfy the landscape gardening market.
Director of quarry operations Steven Munro said: " The opening of Strathrory marks the next step in an ongoing expansion planand will safeguard our aggregate supply well in to the future.
"After 70 years, our first quarry Caplich, is essentially all worked out, but will still be operating as the main base for all other operations, including asphalt and concrete production.”
