Store lambs ‘keenly bid for’ at Caithness sheep sale
Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday, September 9, sold 3577 prime and store sheep, feeding ewes and rams.
Prime lambs (975) averaged 275.3p per kg to 325.6p for 41kg Suffolks from Backlass Croft, Watten, and £147.50 three times, firstly for a 51kg Beltexs from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield, secondly for 63kg Charolais from 31 Larel, Halkirk, and thirdly for 59kg Texel from Midtown, Freswick.
Ewe lambs (504) averaged £85.25 (+£3.57) and sold to £155 for North Country Cheviot Park ewe lambs from Lynton Cottage, Ulbster.
Store lambs (1463) averaged £83.49 (+£14.76) to £126 for Texels from West Bardnatua, Latheron.
Feeding ewes and rams (635) averaged £90.87 and sold to £181.50 for a Texel from The Smithy, Haster.
“Store lambs were once again very keenly bid for with strong continentals in high demand. A strong entry of prime lambs followed national trends and would be slightly easier on the week with all ewes in short demand of buyers’ requirements.”
