Scourie Primary School pupils clock up 55.8 miles in High Life Highland challenge

It was a challenge that all 17 pupils at Scourie Primary School took up with gusto.

The children embraced High Life Highland’s inaugural virtual running competition with enthusiasm.

Aimed at encouraging pupils across the Highlands to be active, pupils were asked to record their runs and compete against other schools.

Stoer Primary School pupils supported each other to complete High Life Highland’s running challenge. Even the youngest children achieved the goals set for them.

Active schools co-ordinator, Murdoch Jamieson, and PE teacher, Marianne Hutchison, worked together to deliver the running challenge.

Mrs Hutchison said: “During a block of five PE lessons the children enjoyed experiencing a variety of running surfaces – and weather conditions!

“They supported each other and had fun while developing stamina, and knowledge about running techniques.”

The combined distance ran by the 17 Scourie pupils was an amazing 89,800m ( 55.8 miles)

“Every pupil took part and all exceeded the challenge distance set for their age group,” said Mrs Hutchinson.

“Even our three pre-school children, who were not expected to take part, ran more than the distance set for primaries one to three.”
