'Stick to the surname theme', advises community councillor as house developer requests names for streets in Dornoch scheme

A HOUSE developer has asked Dornoch Area Community Council to come up with two new street names.

Pat Munro Homes has requested names for two streets in phase five and six of its Dean’s Park development, at the south west boundary of the town.

Surnames have been used as street names in the development so far.

Community Councillor Graeme Ross suggested at the group’s meeting last Wednesday that historic place names be used.

His colleague Jimmy Melville suggested the streets in question could be named after trees.

But treasurer Jerry Bishop pointed out that the theme of surnames had been used to name the existing streets.

He felt it would be a good idea to stick with the theme.

“I would think surnames to finish off two road names in that development makes a lot of sense,” he said.

It was agreed to form a sub-committee to come up with some appropriate street names.

Highland Council has asked the community council to respond to the house builder's request by a deadline of September 12.
