SSEN Transmission representatives to attend Brora super pylons meeting

A PUBLIC meeting is to be held at Brora later this month, to discuss SSEN Transmission's controversial plans for a new 400kV pylon line running around 100 miles from Spittal to Beauly.

New sub-stations at Spittal, Loch Buidhe and Beauly are also proposed.

The proposed new super pylons are up to 57m high and will run from Spittal to Beauly.

Representatives of SSEN Transmission will be at the meeting which has been organised by three East Sutherland community councils – Brora; Helmsdale and District; and Golspie.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "This meeting provides an opportunity for our coastal and crofting communities to find out more about these proposals, to ask questions and to voice any concerns.

"SSEN claim that the route of the line has not yet been finalised."

She added: "This 400kV line is a large-scale proposal which will have a considerable visual impact on the setting of our communities, the tourist route and our general environment.

"We would urge all interested residents to attend."

The meeting is taking place at Brora Community Centre from 6.30pm on Thursday, May 25.
