SECTARIAN singing by a Rangers fan late at night in Inverness High Street attracted the attention of police officers Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday.

Robin Munro, who was wearing a Rangers shirt, was also shouting and swearing and when arrested he struggled with police officers, kicking one of them on the body.

Munro (33) of Mackintosh Road, Inverness appeared from custody.

He previously admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on July 8 and singing sectarian abuse and police assault.

He admitted a further charge of racially abusing a Polish policewoman. Sentence had been deferred for reports.

“It was an unedifying episode,” said his solicitor, Marc Dickson.

Solicitor Karen Smith said the officers were dealing with another matter at the time when their attention was drawn to Munro who was walking past singing a sectarian song and wearing a Rangers shirt.

“It became clear he was intoxicated and he became aggressive.

“He struggled and repeatedly kicked one officer on the knee and as they tried to put him in a van he kicked him on the knee again.”

The fiscal said he called the policewoman a “Polish bitch”.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood jailed Munro for six months back dated to July 8.
