Site visit and public meeting for proposed Pollie Wind Farm on Balnacoil Estate at Strath Brora
A site visit and public meeting on the proposed Pollie Wind Farm in Strath Brora has been organised for next week, Brora Community Council has been told.
Coriolis Energy has teamed up with ESB, Ireland’s partly state-owned electricity company, to bring forward plans to develop the 13-turbine Pollie Hill Wind Farm on Balnacoil Estate, on land about 17km north-west of Golspie.
The site selected for the wind farm is within a “failed” commercial lodgepole pine plantation. The turbines would be up to 200m high and the wind farm would have a generating power capacity of around 80MW.
The plans are at a very early stage with a scoping request submitted to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU).
Brora community councillor Ruwan Uduwerage-Perera told the group’s meeting on Tuesday night that a public meeting to discuss the wind farm will be held in Brora Community Lounge next Tuesday, March 25, from 7pm.
Representatives from Coriolis Energy and ESB will attend the meeting along with members of Rogart Community Council.

Mr Uduwerage-Perera said he had spoken to the managers of Balnacoil Estate who had agreed that a site visit could take place.
He said it was hoped to hold the site visit in the afternoon of March 25, prior to the meeting taking place.
“Members of the public are very welcome. to come on the site visit, but I need to know how many people would like to go,” he said.
Mr Uduwerage-Perera added that he would also appreciate hearing from anyone with a four wheel drive vehicle who would be willing to provide transport to the remote site.
He can be contacted by private messenger on his Facebook site.
