Scourie Community Development Company was awarded £32,000 from the Crown Estate Scotland’s Sustainable Communities Fund in March to look into the feasibility of seaweed harvesting and processing in north west Sutherland.

The current status of seaweed farming will be outlined at the workshop and it is also hoped to garner local opinions and recommendations to inform the study.

A wide range of interests are expected to be represented, including creel fishermen, fish farmers, mussel farmers, engineers, local estates, harbour authorities, community councils and members of the public.

The first workshop takes place at Scourie Village Hall next Tuesday (July 26) from 10.30am to noon and again from 7.30pm-9pm

The following day there will be workshops at Lochinver Village Hall at the same times.
