Rogart-based Tain Tesco community champion sets out her stall

A NEW community champion who will be a familiar face to supermarket shoppers in Sutherland and Easter Ross has hit the ground running.

Heidi Rowlinson-Imhof has taken on the role for Tesco in Tain.

Heidi, who lives in Rogart, said: “I aim to carry on the great work done by my predecessors here at Tesco Tain, and I would like to make people in the community aware of events and fundraisers happening in the local area.”

One initiative being supported is a clothing drive for pre-loved school clothes. Casey and Claire’s Clothing Drive, run under the auspices of YMCA Tain and North Highland, aims to help local families through donations of good, clean school uniforms and PE kit.

Donations can be dropped off and browsed at Tain YMCA. Trousers and skirts, school shoes, polo shirts and shirts and Tain Royal Academy hoodies are all accepted.

Supporting the initiative, Heidi said: “If the children have outgrown their uniforms, please consider donating their old ones and helping local families! What a fantastic idea to help reduce waste and the cost of new uniforms!”

Her latest update also reveals that thanks to the generosity of shoppers in Tain, 1107 meals were donated to the local food bank in April. The store has a food bank collection point near the exit.Long life/tinned food is welcome with a list of items needed on the community board by the checkouts.

The new community champion has also revealed the latest results of the store’s Stronger Starts initiative, determined by the votes of shoppers.

In first place and gaining a £1500 boost is Tain Royal Adademy's Room 22, which provides a safe space and nurturing environment for the all the young people at the school.

The 1st Tarbat Scout Group's Cubs and Beavers, which aims to inspire young people to learn new skills, go on camping trips, earn badges and have fun as a group secured £1000 in second place.

And the Friends of TCD, who are helping to provide new uniforms for TCD's competitive mini and senior cheer teams and new tumbling equipment to enhance their training and skill development, secured £500 support.
