Remembrance Day parades and services in Sutherland
Remembrance Sunday parades and services are taking place across Sutherland today, Sunday, November 12. Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday of November every year to honour Britain's war dead.
Yesterday, Saturday, November 11, was Armistice Day, which marks the agreement between the Allies and Germany in 1918 to stop fighting, declaring victory for the Allies in World War I.
ARDGAY AND BONAR BRIDGE
Remembrance Sunday service at Ardgay War Memorial at 10.30am and at Bonar Bridge War Memorial at 11am.
ASSYNT
Sunday service at 11.15am in the church and on Zoom. This is a later time than normal to allow for the Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph
BRORA
Brora Veterans Remembrance Parade starts at 10.25am from the Scout Hall to the War Memorial, Brora, where a service will be held. All veterans welcome.
DORNOCH
Remembrance Day service at Dornoch Cathedral at 11.30am following the parade.
GOLSPIE
A Remembrance Sunday service takes place at St Andrew’s Church from 10am-10.30am followed by the usual parade at 10.50am at the war memorial. The two minute silence will be observed at 11am followed by the laying of wreaths. There will be soup and sandwiches in Lodge St Andrews for all attending the parade.
HELMSDALE
Gather at 10.15am on Sunday by the Bridge car park for a service.
KINLOCHBERVIE
Remembrance Sunday worship at Kinlochbervie Church of Scotland 10am-10.45am and a Remembrance Service at Kinlochbervie War Memorial at 11am.
LOTH
Gather at 3pm at Loth burial ground for a service.
MELVICH
Melvich Community Council Remembrance Day Service on Sunday, November 12, at the war memorial. All welcome. Tea, coffee and bacon rolls from Coastline coffee shop after the service.
