A BOAT at the heart of four women’s attempts to make history has been turning heads on the Black Isle.

Fiona Deakin, from Cromarty, is part of a four-strong crew of women who aim to become the first ever all-female team from Scotland to row across an ocean.

They take part in the World’s Toughest Row this December - a 3000-mile race across the Atlantic in a seven-metre ocean-going rowing boat.

Scotland the Wave also includes Andrena McShane-Kerr from Glasgow, Nicky Matthews from Arbroath and Heather McCallum from Dunoon.

They aim to row 12 hours a day, battling sleep deprivation, storms, 25ft waves and salt sores to achieve the challenge. They are raising funds for four charities close to their hearts RNLI, BreastCancer UK , SIMBA and Scottish Air Ambulance.
