Re-opening of Vue cinema in Inverness
CINEMA lovers in the north will be able to end their big screen drought this month.
The city's eight-screen Vue cinema has announced it will reopen on August 26, with tickets on sale from next Wednesday.
The UK-wide chain had originally intended to begin reopening its cinemas last month, but postponed the phased reopening until this week, with Edinburgh being the first of its Scottish sites to open its doors to customers.
Vue promises enhanced safety measures to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19, including online booking, social distancing, PPE for employees, enhanced cleaning and film times staggered to prevent too many people congregating at one time.
Film fans will have to wait until next week to find out which releases will be on offer when Vue Inverness resumes operations, but the reopening date coincides with rumoured rescheduled release dates for director Christopher Nolan's much anticipated science-fiction thriller Tenet.
Distributors have also announced plans to reissue several classic films for the big screen in a big to encourage film buffs to venture out once again, but several major releases planned for this summer have been postponed until later in the year or 2021, with some other films planned for a 2020 cinema release now going direct to streaming services.
