'Quiet' fireworks added to Dornoch display tonight as communities celebrate Guy Fawkes Night
Communities in Sutherland will be celebrating Guy Fawkes Night tonight with the traditional bonfires and firework displays.
Dornoch and District Community Association (DaDCA) organises the town’s bonfire party each year and it is an event that is definitely not to be missed.
All are welcome to gather at town square at 6.30pm from where a torch-lit procession leaves to arrive at the bonfire site at 7.30pm.
Torches can be purchased at £3.50 each.
An event spokeswoman said: “Our fabulous firework display will start between 7.15pm and 7.30pm, weather dependent.
“This year we’ve added some quiet fireworks to the display, recognising those animals and people who struggle with the noise.
“We’ve also gone plastic free as much as possible.”
Refreshments will be available with a food van on site and there will also be Herchers side shows.
It costs a lot to purchase fireworks and, although the Dornoch bonfire event is free, donations would be welcome and there will be collectors doing the rounds with buckets.
Scourie Gala is all set for the community bonfire and fireworks display from 7pm.
Brora Carnival Week “tried hard” to stage a bonfire night in the village this year but said it had sadly been unable to find an accessible location.
Instead, the group has organised transport to the Dornoch event. The “bonfire bus” leaves Brora at 5,30pm but numbers are limited.
