Public meeting to be held following publication of report into closure-hit Falls of Shin Visitor Centre
An independent report commissioned to come up with a way forward for the community-owned Falls of Shin Restaurant, which has been closed over the past two seasons, has now been published.
David Watson, manager of the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, (KoSDT),which takes care of the visitor attraction, told Creich Community Council on Tuesday that the report had been completed and made available
He said it was now with the KoSDT board and the National Lottery, which contributed more than £1 million to the redevelopment of the restaurant after a former building on the site was destroyed by fire.
It emerged earlier in April that the restaurant and gift shop at the popular Sutherland beauty spot, near Invershin and Lairg, would not open for the summer season with KoSDT unable to find an operator because of a staffing crisis affecting businesses across the county.
Mr Watson said at the time that the National Lottery had appointed an external consultant to look at options and that process was under way.
At Wednesday’s meeting, he said: “We are quite content with the report - it gives a few options.
“What we will be doing is having an AGM in July with a public meeting on the back of that and then anyone can come along and ask questions."
He added: “There has been some interest in leasing it without anything concrete coming through. It is a reflection of the economic times and staffing is a massive issue."
