A separate power cut has hit 116 properties in Helmsdale, Portgower and a large area in and around Kildonan.

Engineers are on-site near Rogart with the power cut, reported at 4.50 am today expected to be resolved by 9 am.

They are yet to reach the latter second area affected, with the blackout there reported at 6.12 am today not expected to be dealt with until 10pm tonight.

A spokesman for SSEN said the estimate for a lengthy wait for affected residents in the Helmsdale area was down to safety concerns with high winds set to hit the area.
