POLICE are making a renewed appeal to householders in the Dornoch area to check their outbuildings as the search continues for local chef Lachlan Simpson, who has now been missing for a month.

The 22-year-old vanished in the early hours of Sunday 26th July following the Sutherland Agricultural Society marquee show dance, held on Dornoch links.

Police are particularly keen to trace a rucksack which Mr Simpson is known to have had in his possession.

Inspector Jamie Wilson said this morning: “I would appeal again for residents to search sheds and outbuildings for anything of note that may assist us in tracing Lachlan. His rucksack is still outstanding and we are very keen to trace this item.”

A second leaflet drop is to be undertaken in the Dornoch area next week to raise awareness of Mr Simpson’s disappearance.

Inspector Wilson said: “Specialist search officers continue to search the local area daily, using resources such as the police helicopter for shoreline and wooded area.

“Police and SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Association) dogs have been active in addition to Coastguard personnel, who have helped undertake both shoreline and inland searches.

“Searches are focusing on areas close to where Lachlan was last seen but also areas he was known to frequent and spend time. Wider searches have been carried out with the thought Lachlan may have lost his way trying to reach his destination that night.”

Inspector Wilson paid tribute to local people for their support.

“We continue to have enormous support from the local community and beyond,” he said. “All information received is considered and thoroughly investigated and we would reiterate our appeal for anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant they may feel it to be, to contact the police.”
