Police confirm body found was that of missing man

On Tuesday, Police Scotland conducted a search for a missing man on behalf of Cumbria Constabulary, who was believed to be in the Sutherland area.

The search was co-ordinated by police with assistance provided from RNLI Lifeboat from Thurso, Melvich Coastguard and HM Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 100.

At around 12.30pm, the body of a man was sadly located in the water near to Neave Island, off the coast of Tongue..

Police can now confirm the identity of the man as Christopher Strange, aged 59, from Kendal.

Mr Strange's family say: "We would like to thank the Kendal and Wick police departments for their phenomenal support and kindness throughout this tragic and harrowing time.

"We also send heartfelt thanks to all ourr extended family and friends for their love and support. Chris was very much loved and will be enormously missed."

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
