Plans well under way for Ardgay and District 50th anniversary celebrations

Plans are well in hand for Ardgay and District’s Golden Jubilee Celebration on Saturday, May 17.

Events will be held to mark the 50th anniversary of the area becoming part of Sutherland in a major reorganisation of local government. Prior to 1975, the area was in Ross-shire.

A working group has been set up to coordinate the celebrations.

Miranda Jones, who is helping to organise the events, said: “The day will begin at 11am with a performance by the Sutherland Pipe Band and the raising of the Sutherland flag. Lord-Lieutenant Patrick Marriott will be in attendance.

“We will have a celebration of local artisans in the square, along with children’s rides and activities, food stalls.

“There will be an exhibition of all things Ardgay in the village hall, a treasure hunt in Gearrchoille Woods, and a ceilidh in the evening.”
