Ullapool’s biggest community fishing event of the year returned for its 10th anniversary.
The Ullapool Angling Competition took place on August 31 at Ullapool Harbour, and made good use of the new Shore Street promenade, which were recently completed in 2023 by the Ullapool Harbour Trust as a part of their £10m redevelopment project.
It was also the biggest Ullapool Angling Competition to date, with over 120 entrants and 32 boats participating in the event.
Event organiser Noel Hawkins said: “It was the tenth anniversary since we restarted the event, after taking a break since the late 1970s. This year we also added a new Under 12s category to encourage young people to take part.
“We also offered some junior angling at the harbour too, thanks to Sam and Dave who also helped referee. As well as this, we also had a seafood paella on the day, with seafood donations from The Bon Ami fishing boat and SRCfoods, which was cooked by Steve Husband. This was all accompanied by music from Calum Macrae and Matt Marrow too.”
Praising the success of the event, Mike Prior said: “Must say the paella was absolutely fantastic and made it all the way back to Darlington which I’ve just had for my tea tonight, I wish I’d purchased more! Also the bands were spot on.”
Martin Urquhart stated: “A great day had by all, thanks to all the organisers and Noel Hawkins.”
