PICTURES: Launch of fundraiser for new Gaelic language hub in the Highland Capital backed by Ross MSP Kate Forbes and dozens gather to learn of ambitious plans
An ambitious fundraiser has been launched in the hope of bringing a Gaelic cultural centre to Inverness.
Campaigners hope the £500,000 hub will bring together native speakers, those who have learned the tongue, and those who want to find out more all under one roof.
One of the main hopes is that it will allow children who have learned the language to continue to be able to use it.
Cultarlann Inbhir Nis are behind the plans and have set an ambitious initial target of raising £50,000 over the next eight weeks.
The launch event at Inverness Cathedral yesterday brought together dozens of supporters of the plans.
Musicians played traditional music and Gaelic songs were sung - led by Angus MacLeod - in a show of support for the project.
MSP Kate Forbes, herself a Gaelic speaker, also spoke at the event and backed the idea.
