PICTURES: East Sutherland Rotary Club's Classic Car Tour attracts more than 50 entries with 1938 Morris Special one of oldest vehicles
More than 50 cars were entered into the Rotary Club of East Sutherland's fundraising classic car tour last Saturday, May 20.
The majority of the participants came from the north of Scotland, but there were entries from as far south as Kent and Wiltshire.
This year Michael Turley brought his 1996 Mini over from Germany.
Cars as old as a 1938 Morris took part, as well as cars from the 50s through to the 90s along with some more modern sports cars.
There were Jaguars, Ferraris, Porsches, MGs, Triumphs and many other makes.
The classic car tour, which was first held in 2014, was run this year in aid of the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance and East Sutherland Rescue Association (ESRA).
A proportion of the funds raised are held by the Rotary club to distribute to support local charities and good causes.
The tour started in Dornoch as usual then headed north to Helmsdale via Rogart and Balnacoil. Helsmdale provided the first stop for coffee and biscuits at the community centre with refreshments provided by Thyme and Plaice.
Then it was on up the strath to the north coast through Forsinard before turning right to Thurso for a lunch stop at the Weigh Inn. The tour proceeded onwards towards John O’Groats before heading south for the final stop at Clynelish Distillery.
A spokesman for the organisers said: “A huge thank you to the participants for their generosity and to the refreshment venues for looking after us all. We hope that once all donations have been made that we will have raised around £5000 in support of Scottish Charity Air Ambulance and East Sutherland Rescue Association."
